Kuzmenko Y. Evaluation and creation of the source material of spring durum wheat by quantitative traits and selection indices

The dissertation provides theoretical generalization and practical solution of current scientific problem on the establishment of breeding and genetic features of collection samples for valuable agronomic characteristics, identification of genetic sources, creation of new germplasm and competitive varieties which is essential in spring durum wheat breeding. As a result of estimation the collection, the sources of spring durum wheat of various ecological and geographical origins with high productivity potential and lodging resistance have been identified and recommended as parental components for crosses, as well as sources for individual elements of productivity, sources with complex resistance have been identified. Correlations of various degrees of strength have been established between yielding capacity of spring durum wheat collection samples and yield components. The indices of plasticity and stability have been determined for individual performance elements. The selection indices of collection samples were determined and correlations between the yield and the value of the indices were established. It was determined inheritance by the degree of phenotypic dominance in F1, the value of the varieties was determined for the general combining ability, the constants of the specific combining ability, as well as for their variances according to the characteristics of yield components. The level of manifestation of the degree and frequency of positive transgressions in the F2 populations was established. A new breeding material of spring durum wheat has been created which is being further tested in breeding nurseries of the Spring Wheat Breeding Laboratory of the V. M. Remeslo Myronivka Institute of Wheat of NAAS of Ukraine. The line Hordeiforme 15-05 was allocated and submitted to the state qualification examination as new variety of spring durum wheat MIP Perlyna. The varieties MIP Raiduzhna and MIP Kseniia were put on the State Register of Plant Varieties Suitable for Dissemination in Ukraine.
