Beh K. Urban wedding ceremonies: transformations and tendencies of modern development (second half of the XX - beginning of the XXI century).

The dissertation is the first attempt at a comprehensive analysis of wedding ceremonies in Ukrainian urban society in the second half of the twentieth century. The paper traces the formation of urban wedding ceremonies and highlights the trends of transformations of the components of traditional Ukrainian culture in an urban environment. Attention is paid primarily to the development, existence and modification of family rituals and its marriage and wedding component, as one of the most important ethno-identification factors and an element of preserving ethnicity. The main factors of transformational ritual practices and reduction of traditional components of rituals in different periods of socio-political crisis and globalization processes are highlighted. In particular, it is noted that during the 1920s and 1980s, the Soviet system played a major role in the transformation of wedding ceremonies and the spiritual foundations of the Ukrainian people in general. It is revealed that in the conditions of dynamic cultural and integration processes the modern Ukrainian wedding in an urban environment is enriched on the one hand by borrowing marriage components and ceremonial rituals of different ethnocultures, and on the other hand there are reductions and modifications of a number of components of its traditional format. The role of mass media in the process of standardization of wedding culture of citizens is revealed and analyzed. It is established that the total informatization of society, due to the availability of use and prevalence of personal means of communication, has led to significant changes in the structure of the city wedding. Modern wedding ceremonies of the urban population in terms of intercultural interaction and technical and innovative development of society are characterized by variability of forms and content and emotionally expressive diversity of ritualism. At the same time in the urban environment at the beginning of the XXI century. there is a tendency to re-actualize traditional wedding ritual practices and paraphernalia, which indicates the intensification of ethno-identification processes in Ukrainian society.
