Sereda V. Heterosis selection of sugar sorghum in the steppe conditions of Ukraine

The object of research is the process of creating hybrids of sugar sorghum and their evaluation by morphological and basic economic and valuable features. The purpose of the research was to evaluate and select the source material of sugar sorghum according to a set of economically valuable feature sand to create high-yielding hybrids of sugar sorghum. Research methods – general science: analysis, synthesis, induction and deduction, generalization and systematization. Special: field (research of biological and technological issues), visual (establishment of physiological phases of plant development), laboratory (biometric research, chemical analysis, determination of parameters of crop structure and yield elements), calculation-comparative (determination of economic and energy efficiency of new sorghum source material), mathematical and statistical (analysis of variance and correlation), special selection methods (hybridization, selection and evaluation of source material). Results: the source material was selected to create hybrids of bioenergy and feed use. 4 hybrids of sugar sorghum were created, two of which are sources of sugar-bearing raw materials for bioethanol production, one – feed direction, one – for solid fuel production (pellets, briquettes, etc.). Two hybrids are included in the State Register of Plant Varieties Suitable for Distribution in Ukraine: 1. Certificate of Authorship for Plant Variety №170858 – Ananas (authorship 20%) in the register from 2018, 2. Certificate of Authorship for Plant Variety №190528 – Gulliver (authorship 20%) in the register from 2019. The Vitam hybrid was also submitted to the State Variety Testing in 2020. Novelty – scientific novelty of the obtained results. For the first time in the conditions of the Steppe of Ukraine the selection of parent components for selection of hybrids of sorghum of sugar energy direction of use is carried out.
