Essay

For the first time, the collections of Ternopil’s artworks of the second half of the 20th – the beginning of the 21st centuries are comprehensively investigated, the features of their formation and functioning in the cultural context are elucidated. The museum funds of the Ternopil museums are researched and the main factors of their creation are outlined. The processes of creation and preservation not only of museum, but also of private collections are traced, their characteristic features are defined. The basic direction of collecting works of art by the Ternopil museums and their creative events and exhibitions were analyzed. Priority directions of activity of museums at the present stage are distinguished. The role of individual contributors and collectors in the cultural space of the Ternopil region and all Ukraine is clarified and identified. The practical task of the research is to apply its theses and conclusions to expand the theoretical base of art science, to use its results in the further scientific and artistic practice, dedicated to the artistic works of Ternopil artists, both domestic and foreign, as well as museum and private collections. The information gathered in the these will become an important basis for the writing of textbooks, lectures and methodological developments in the history of Ukrainian fine arts and cultural studies. The value of the theses is the ability to use the results of scientific work to popularize museum practice, to clarify some issues from the Ukrainian history of art, will assist the further studying of the historical and artistic processes of the Ternopil region; will be useful in organizing extracurricular classes, fine arts lessons and art history classes at educational establishments, etc. The theoretical basis of the thesis is highlighted in Chapter 1. The analysis of art criticism, cultural, regional, and publicist sources in the above-mentioned problems allowed finding out the state of contemporary scientific knowledge about museum and privat collections of the Ternopil region The methodological foundations of the research are based on the system of general scientific research principles, methods and scientific approaches. In the thesis the complex and systemic principles are applied, as well as the principles of historicism, objectivity, comprehensiveness, which ensure the study of the object and subject of the research, and also allow considering the art collections of the Ternopil region as a separate phenomenon on the background of Ukrainian culture. In the research a set of methods of universal, general scientific and specific character were used, the complementarity of which ensured the objectivity and scientific reliability of the results of the proposed work. In Chapter 2 the historical and cultural processes that took place in the region during the 20th century were described, the close connection of the museums with a traditional art culture, including the Ternopil region, is also analyzed. The tendencies of the formation and development of the museum activity in the context of historical events and cultural life of the region are considered. The influence of factors on the formation of the first museum in Ternopil was investigated. Special attention is paid to the peculiarities and tendencies of the development of the Ternopil museums and their active participation in the cultural life of the region: participation in public societies and art associations, creation of galleries, active exhibition, regional, public activity, development of international relations, contacts with leading cultural and artistic figures. It is traced that art maintains a close connection with the traditional art culture. It is noted that the variety of stock works is quite large.
