The work uses an interdisciplinary strategy with the involvement of the methodology developed in biography, personology, cultural and art history regionalistics, due to which approaches have been developed regarding the identification and characteristics of personal determinants of the creative individuality of a person-master. Among the most important determinants that form the creative individuality, have been distinguished: 1) the era in which the master worked, and the generation to which he belonged; 2) the features of the deployment of his life scenario; 3) the correlation of extraversion and introversion vectors in the master’s activity complex; 4) manifestation of creative individuality through musical style, genre priorities and appeal to the most important cultural symbols, signs, codes, archetypes, existentials; 5) locus as a cultural space in which the master’s life scenario takes place.
The personal determinants of V. Kosenko as a composer were formed in Zhytomyr, where, thanks to a high level of cultural life, he had ample opportunities for versatile self-realization as a musician, and his isolation from cultural centers allowed him to focus on creating an individual composer style. In the Zhytomyr period, V. Kosenko’s worldview and composer personality were formed, which is characterized by introversion and existentiality, rational intellectualism and moderate innovation as a type of artistic thinking, symbolism as an intentional dominant, symbolistically oriented post-romanticism and romanticized neoclassicism as the leading stylistic guidelines.
The landmark and constant in the process of the composer’s stylistic evolution was the music of the era of romanticism, which most fully corresponded to the internal introverted determinants of his personality, thanks to which continuity was preserved in the process of V. Kosenko’s transition from one style dominant to another. Neoclassical tendencies became a manifestation of a change in the vector in the master’s creative-activity complex and showed a movement towards the objectification of musical images. In the best neoclassical works of V. Kosenko, his personal interverted determinants were organically combined with the objectivity of a musical language oriented towards ancient musical styles. The personal determinants of V. Kosenko’s creative individuality are also revealed in the presence of the most important cultural symbols, archetypes, existentials in his music.
