Hordiienko O. Development of the composition, technology and research of plant-based tablets for topical application in the oral cavity

The objects – blood-red geranium herb, siberian geranium herb, essential oil of сlary sage, dry extract of blood-red geranium, dry extract of siberian geranium, 30 excipients, experimental series of powder mixtures for tableting and tablets; the purpose –the development of the optimal composition, technology and research of the tablets based on extract of blood-red geranium herb and siberian geranium herb with essential oil of сlary sage for topical use in the oral cavity; methods – crystallographic (size and shape of crystals), pharmaco-technological (fractional composition, coefficients of swelling and absorption, compressibility, loss in mass on drying, flowability, angle of natural slope, bulk density, tapped density, the uniformity of mass, the friability, disintegration time, resistance to crushing), physicochemical (thin layer and gas chromatography, absorption spectrophotometry), mathematical and statistical (dispersion and regression analyzes), microbiological (double serial dilutions in a liquid nutrient medium and diffusion in agar), biological (studies of anti-inflammatory action and acute toxicity); results – the study includes the marketing researches of the Ukrainian market of herbal medicines that are used for local application in dentistry and ENT practice. The pharmaco-technological properties of crushed blood-red geranium and siberian geranium were studied and the optimal extraction modes were established. The results of the development of the technology and research of dry extracts of blood-red geranium and siberian geranium are presented. The study proves the antimicrobial, antifungal and anti-inflammatory activity of the pharmaceutical composition based on dry extracts of siberian geranium and blood-red geranium with essential oil of сlary sage in the ratio ‒ 1:3:1,2. We used the mathematical planning of the experiment to gain the results of research on the development of optimal composition and technology of tablets based on plant extracts and essential oil for local treatment of diseases of the oral mucosa. Based on the study of the qualitative and quantitative composition of the active pharmaceutical ingredients of tablets, criteria for the quality of tablets are proposed. Microbiological studies prove the antimicrobial and antifungal activity of tablets. Based on the results of the study of acute toxicity, the proposed tablets are classified as toxicity class Vth.; introduced – into the educational process and research work of 6 higher education institutions of Ukraine, into production of JSC «Halychpharm» of corporation «Arterium»; branch – pharmacy.
