The dissertation considers the peculiarities of the origin and formation of the Ukrainian school on the material of the works of iconic figures of Ukrainian literature of the XIX–XXI centuries; the peculiarities of the works of writers in the pedagogical aspect are revealed. The purpose of the dissertation research is to identify and analyze the peculiarities of the theme of Ukrainian school education in the literary and artistic heritage of a number of prominent writers of the XIX – XXI centuries, as well as to reveal the pedagogical and educational aspect of the literary activity of these writers. This goal involves solving a number of tasks, among which the following should be emphasized: outlining the features of the representation of the theme of schooling in the works of selected writers, defining ideological and thematic features of selected works, revealing the principles of school education at the level of selected works. and genre and style approaches to the realization of the theme of the school in the works of selected writers, as well as coverage of the means of artistic detailing of the image of the Ukrainian school in selected works. When we talk about the Ukrainian school system of the end of the XIX - beginning of the XXI century, first of all we clearly outline three separate epochs in which the Ukrainian people and Ukrainian culture have been for the last hundred and over years. The first epoch - Ukraine is divided between the Russian and Austro-Hungarian empires, is characterized by anti-national policies of both empires. Ukraine suffered two national and cultural attacks at once, on the one hand it was Russian and on the other - Austro-Hungarian. It was marked by social and national oppression of the people of Ukraine in the interests of the ruling classes of each of the empires. The second epoch that the Ukrainian people went through during the last century was the epoch of Soviet totalitarian repression.
