In the dissertation the complex scientific research of administrative and legal protection of population against infectious diseases is carried out, the stages of its formation, characteristic signs are outlined. The principles of protection of population are systematized and their list is supplemented, the content of the concepts "prevention of infectious diseases", "pandemic", "state policy on protection of population from infectious diseases" is substantiated. Elements of the mechanism of administrative and legal protection of population from infectious diseases are singled out, normative and legal regulation is analysed, public administration in the system of subjects of protection is defined. The types of means of administrative and legal protection of population from infectious diseases are revealed, the control and supervision in the system of means is outlined, their peculiarities are clarified. The legal responsibility for violation of the norms regulating the protection of population from infectious diseases is analysed, the proposals are made to improve the legislation in the field of protection of population from infectious diseases.
