Essay

The study is devoted to identifying the role of the Department of Choreography of the Kyiv State Institute of Culture in the development of the national choreographic school from the 1970s to 1990s. The work analyzes the literature and sources on the problem of the formation and development of the department; the methodological principles of the research were determined, the concept of "national choreographic school" was clarified; the socio-cultural prerequisites for the opening of the choreography department are characterized; the role of K. Vasylenko, G. Berezova, A. Gumenyuk in the formation of the department of choreography and the national choreographic school as a whole is revealed; the theoretical and practical activity of the department's teachers is highlighted through the prism of their contribution to the national choreographic school; the pedagogical activity of its graduates at the department was analyzed. The author's definition of the term "national choreographic school" is presented: a dynamic system of methodological foundations of choreographic activity (performing, choreographic, teaching, etc.) related to the historical and cultural environment of the nation, archetypes of Ukrainian culture, features of the national character, etc. The cultural prerequisites that led to the appearance of the first choreography department in the Ukrainian SSR at the KDIK are indicated: the selection in the 1930s in the USSR of a vector for the development of mass forms of artistic self-activity, where folk choreography occupied one of the leading places, including as a means of realizing the Soviet " national cultural policy"; a significant increase in the number of amateur artistic groups in the post-war period (after the Second World War), led by non-specialists, mostly on public grounds; failure of temporary measures (courses) to meet the need for managers, etc. It was noted that the activity of the department was based on the achievements of the national choreographic school, such as: the formed technique of classical dance in educational institutions and the practice of opera and ballet theaters; approval of the principles of creating a national ballet performance; choreographic and pedagogical methods of P. Virskyi; organizational and methodical principles developed in choreographic education institutions and the system of dance artistic self-activity; integration of materials from folklore and ethnographic expeditions and recordings of authentic dances into choreographic practice, etc. It was emphasized that it was important for the development of the department to invite not only the leading specialists of the field to the teaching staff, but also talented own graduates, which contributed to the inheritance of generations, the constant dialectical interaction of traditions and innovations. The features that testify to the formation at the department of the art and pedagogical school are noted: K. Vasylenko is the founder and leader of the school as a creative association of artists; the presence of students-followers who spread and developed methodical approaches, traditions formed at the choreography department; unification of teachers and students in the development of higher choreographic education in Ukraine, solving various artistic and pedagogical tasks, in particular, improving the methodology of teaching Ukrainian folk and stage dance; provision by teachers of advisory assistance to leaders of amateur dance groups, which contributed to the spread of the department's influence on the artistic space; numerous performances on stage venues (academic concerts, report concerts) as a demonstration of the results of the department's artistic and creative activities, etc. The activity of the department as an art and pedagogical school influenced the development of the national choreographic school, choreographic culture as a whole, contributing to the formation of higher choreographic education in Ukraine. It is concluded that the activity of the department has made a significant contribution to the development of the national choreographic school, stimulating the formation of higher choreographic education in Ukraine, increasing the level of expertise of the heads of amateur choreographic groups, outlining the prospects for the training of professional artists, ballet masters, teachers of professional choreographic disciplines, contributing to the development of choreographic culture as a whole . Keywords: department of choreography, Kyiv State Institute of Culture, national choreographic school, choreography, dance, Ukrainian culture.
