Essay

In the work for the first time in Slavic linguistics the stages of development of the Sorbian normative botanical nomenclature are defined, its genetic, lexico-semantic and word-building peculiarities are investigated. It is found out, that the formation of this group of lexicon occured during XIX-XX centuries. From the point of view of genesis the normative botanical nomenclature is non-uniform. The All-Slavic lexicon, actually Sorbian phytonyms and borrowings from both Slavic and unslavic languages, is allocated in its structure. Qualificative sings, which display properties and qualities of a reality, and also relative sings, which specify connection of a plant with other subjects or phenomena are in a basis of the names, that keep connection with an initial principle of nomination. The word-building structure of the normative names is determined by existence of three types of phytonyms: simple, complex and compound names (binominal).
