Settlements in Lower Dnieper Region from the IV cent. to the III cent. AD. To reconstruct ethnocultural situation in the Lower Dnieper region in the Scythian and Sarmatian period. Methods: the comparativ-typological, retrospective, chronological, statistic. The chronology is clarified, the relationship between Hellenic and barbarian cultural traditions is reviewed. There is thus a chronological break when there was no settled population, Hellenic or barbarian. Culturally there are two chronologically distinct groups of settlements which share the culture of the Olbian chora, and two other groups, not directly connected, which have a Scytian or mixed barbarian population. The main conclusions in the numerous papers are published. The field of application are the general works on the ancient history and archaeology of Ukraine, the manuals for the high and ordinary school, the museum business.
