The present dissertation provides definition and analysis of basic factors which affected formulation of conceptual and doctrinal approaches to Eastern Europe on the part of two opponent superpowers. The author to creative non-linear analysis based in the wide range of original sources on foreign and domestic policy of the USSR, the USA and East European countries. The research frames the main trends of American foreign policy towards East European countries into a system and presents thorough analysis of its fundamental postulates. The author comes up with his own classification of these trends taking into account their fundamental positions as well as evolution. The present paper also investigates to which extent academic research affects political practices of the USA and the USSR. The author of the research examines motives, objectives and means for ensuring national interests of the superpowers on the regional level, proves effectiveness of some synergetic theory concepts in social and political studies.
