Essay

The dissertation deals with a foreign language cross-cultural cours design and its realization in teaching. The problems solved in the research represent a new directoin in methods of teaching foreign languages which deals with course design on the basis of systemic and functional analysis and modelling. The aims and objectives of foreign language development are specified through the categery of cross-cultural communicative competence with its components dominanting differently on each key stage of study. Current trends and principles of course design have been analysed and the results of the analysis have been summarized. The ways of defining and modelling of both the teaching/learning content (cross-cultural communication as a dialogue between cultures of target and native language nations) and the teaching/learning process (developing target competences) have been specified. The structure and content of the target competences have been studied and systems of exercises have been offered. The ways fo r adoption of cours materials have been identified. Principles of design, functions, types of composition, structure and content specificity of the main cours components for each key stage of teacher?s training have been formulated for the first time. The principles of course visualization technigues have been further developed. The paper suggests possible directions for further theoretical research in the area of cours design are.
