The dissertation deals with one of the most actual and less investigated problems in the history of Ukrainian journalism, that is the study of Oles' Gonchar's public work as a journalist, publicist and editor. The paper is based on the involvement of rare archive sources. It gives a unique opportunity to reveal a great number of important facts of the author's biography, to observe the evolution of his artistic skills and outlook attitudes along with the analysis of Gonchar's famous articles. Reasons for the publicistic writing, its genre system, poetic peculiarities and the author's editing are investigated.
