Suhoterina L. Foundation and Development of Technical Sciences in Ukraine in the 20s-30s of the XX th Century in General Historical Context

The present scientific research describes the foundation and development of technical sciences in Ukraine in the 20s-30-s of the XX th century on the basis of a wide range of sources kept in archives and already published. It is also based on the works of Ukrainian specialists in technical sciences. There have been studied the main direction of technical sciences' development and also shown scientific problems at which Ukrainian scientists worked. There has been analyzed the contribution of scientists - co - workers of scientific research institutes of technical branches of the Ukrainian Academy of sciences, teachers and professors of technical sciences. The dissertation reveals not only achievements but those great difficulties which representatives of technical sciences had to overcome on their ways of developing science and engineering. There are shown intellectual losses which Ukraine suffered through the lack of using creative potential of technical intellectuals, and also the losses due to severerepressions lashed by the totalitarian regime against representatives of the Ukrainian nation. Much attention is devoted to the "white spots" in biographies of outstanding representatives of science and engineering. The forgotten names are called back from the oblivion. The author, coming out from the viewpoint of history of engineering, shown the contribution of every Ukrainian scientist into the elaboration of original technical ideas, technologies, inventions, creation of technical devices
