Essay

The thesis introduces foundations, tasks and methods of cognitive onomastics as a new mode of proper name investigation. The main problem of this approach is existence, forms and functions of onyms in mental lexicon. Entering mental lexicon as words or word combinations proper names are conceptualized and recoded into concepts. Naming only isolated objects and consequently failing to express notions, which leads to their not having semantic bottom, onymic concepts organize and regulate mental lexicon. They, similar to titles, serve as receptacles of considerable range of information which is stored in mental lexicon and assist in output of this information into speech during the process of communication.
