Essay

Marko Kropyvnytsky was an ancestor of the most part of the themes in his plays, which became key ones for that time Ukrainian drama, that is concluded on the basis of Kropyvnytsky's literary and epistolary works analysis and plenty of critical sources. For the first time it is paid attention to the fact that the dominant themes in the author's creative work are those connected with the struggle for Ukrainian national revival, the reservation of Ukrainian people national identity, the mother tongue popularization and development. A positive hero conception in Kropyvnytsky's drama is solved in a new way in this thesis. This hero is a person, who belongs to local authorities, privileged class or he is just a reach peasant. The problem of Kropyvnytsky's works place in Ukrainian modernism - "new drama", existentialism, symbolism etc.- is also investigated in the thesis.
