Essay

The work is a theoretical and experimental study of the problem of forming a foreign language sociocultural competence of non-philological students in the process of their professional training. Practical recommendations concerning the solution of this problem are worked out. From the viewpoint of the systematic and culturological approach to teaching English for specific purposes pedagogical basics of a foreign language sociocultural competence in close connection with students' professional training are grounded. The meanings of such notions as "sociocultural competence in a foreign language", "comparative technology", "sociocultural memory" are described and specified. Scientific system of forming a foreign language sociocultural competence of non-philological students in the process of their professional training is worked out. The contents, structure and functions of sociocultural competence are defined in this research work. The model of forming a foreign language sociocultural competence of non-philological students in the process of their professional training is proposed. The results of this research can be used in practical activity of the foreign language departments which are responsible for teaching language to non-philological students, in master programs and for further development of science in the sphere of teaching foreign languages.
