The object - choreographic culture of the Western Europe of XX century; the purpose - to find out laws of development of the West-European choreographic art from the point of view of its genre-style updating in cho-reographic art of XX century; methods: historical, com-parative-historical, semiotics (the structural analysis); novelty is caused by a choice of a direction of research which expands borders of traditional art criticism (cho-reology). Results: conceptual bases of new dance in its movement from a modernist style up to a postmodern are revealed, stylistic changes of a dancing show are charac-terized, the internal logic of development of a choreo-graphic art through changes of its genre-style features is revealed, is proved, that depending on an origin and pur-poses dance has the certain style codes or represents their conglomerate, is proved, that the basic source of updating of dancing forms and genre specificity of dance in the Western Europe XX item.
