Essay

In the thesis the concept of imagery syncretism, the immanent feature of culture in general and of belles-lettres in particular is set out. In this study the Ukrainian literature of the second half of 19th - the beginning of 20th centuries proves to be syncretic in all its manifestations since in the centre of artistic resources there is always a multidimensional, multiple view figure of a human being. The manifests of syncretism encompass the process and the result of literary works: artistic text, imagery (the structure and interaction of all its levels), the author, the narrator, the recipient and fiction, genre of the piece of literature. The syncretism is defined as the specific unity of literary work elements, inconclusive merging of various text levels, that keep its qualities, unifies all layers of the text body, yet separates them creating unique systemness of a certain piece of work. Literary work perceived from the position if imagery syncretism is exposed at a original artistic perspective, intensifying receptive processes.
