Essay

The research covers the history of Eastern Slavs settled between the Dnipro River and the Carpathians in the 8th-10th cc. based on the materials of Raikovetska culture. The substantial circle of issues concerning the husbandry activity, social development, and beliefs of the Raikovetska culture habitants are studied based on the comprehensive analysis of archaeological antiquities, and with the wide use of the written, ethnographic, and numismatic sources, as well as osteological and palaeobotanical materials. The development degree of agriculture, cattle breeding, trade, mechanical arts, and trade and economical relations is analyzed. Considerable attention is paid to the representation of the complicated pagan world. The features of the Eastern Slavs' social structure are determined. The base of the structure was the community which formed the tribe, belonging to the tribes union, tribal government (knyazivstvo). These tribal governments created the necessary prerequisites for Kyiv State creation.
