Subject of inquiry is a process of creation of environmental modern methodology of forest management as a specific field, which also performs functions, necessary for human vital activity. The aim of study is theoretical substantiation of new forest management methodology, based upon environmental needs, and solving applied forestry transformation problems in the scope of sustainable development. Methods: monographic, institutional, comparative and scenario analysis, statistical analysis methods, modeling. Novelty: for the first time - environmental background of forest management, concept of forest management, as a dynamic system, theoretically grounded, forestry depositing carbon quantity evaluating model developed, model of stakeholders involvement into forest decision-making is developed, technical backgrounds of forestry strategy forming are developed, alternative scenario of Ukrainian forestry development; improved - methodological approaches to edification essence of forest management according to criteria of sustainable development, backgrounds of forest resources use and methodological background of forest use and reforestation modeling taking into consideration, forest cutting age and forests environmental functions according to environmental criteria, forestry system analysis as an object of exogenous and endogenous influences, model of economic instruments implementation for forest environmental risks management. Scientific results of the research are used in authorities activity at different levels in a form of decisions and new methods of management, which are based on authoring. Practical importance of the study consists in application of grounded theoretical and methodological findings that deal with forest management improving, based upon environmental criteria, will positively influence on usage, renewing and protecting of forest resources and the environment. Results of the study can be used for grounding and developing state and regional environment protection programs, developing forest sector, improving and developing forest policy and regulatory and legal framework of forest management.
