Essay

The thesis sets out to provide a comprehensive research of the proverbial manifestation of basic universal and national peculiarities of Slavonic, Germanic and Romance conception of the world. It focuses on the elaboration of a set of criteria for the analysis of proverbs and sayings; the determination of the chronological boundaries of modern European proverbial corpora; the comparative study of the concept "proverb" and its realization in paroemias of different languages; the use of the method of oppositions in the lingual analysis of proverbs and sayings. The framework of the proverbial associative and verbal net is modelled on the basis of the research of universal matrix proverbial oppositions "good - evil", "fool - wise", "wealth - poverty" and their explicit and implicit manifestations in different languages. The verbalization of the stereotypic conception of the place and role of the individual and community, the status and functions of own and alien, their characteristics in different cultures, national priorities in the system of universal values reflected in paroemias are also discussed.
