Essay

The object of the research is personality in the process of self-development. The aim of the research is to justify theoretically and to investigate empirically the psychological principles and mechanisms of personality self-development as well as to develop psycho-pedagogical principles and technologies of eco-humanistic self-development of personality. The theoretical methods are analyses, conceptualization and summery of the results presented in psychological literature devoted to the issues of self-development. The empirical methods are observations, experiments, individual interviews, inquiries, questionnaires, tests, scaling, content-analyses, experts’ evaluations. Research novelty concerns the identification of the psychological essence of self-development process that is reflected in the existential model. It represents process stages and mechanisms that provide the dynamics, the efficiency conditions and the new forms development. The dependence of self-development efficiency on the amplitude of existential sense-cognitive orientation of personality is educed. The mechanism of process continuity is established. The phenomenon of self-development process synergy is discovered. The practical significance concerns the development of eco-humanistic technology that is realized as an interactive metacognitive training course of personality self-development under the condition of university education. The methodology and the programs for developing influence and diagnosing self-development process efficiency provide the empiric qualification for the characteristics of personality that is under the process of self-development. They also provide the choice of optimal developing strategy in the context of personal senses and individual resources for the realization of personality potential.
