Essay

The thesis is devoted to the urgent problem of enhancing students' foreign language professional competence at the higher technical educational establishments in conditions of distance education. The manuscript contains main conceptual and methodological basis of investigating the foreign language professional competence and its enhancing at the higher technical educational establishments in conditions of distance education. In this respect the author discloses the essence, structure and peculiarities of the foreign language professional competence, points out criteria of the competence as manifested in the process of the professional activity fulfilled in the foreign language surrounding. Main tendencies of enhancing students' competences by means of distance education practiced abroad are revealed and the pedagogical concept of enhancing students' foreign language professional competence in conditions of distance education is elaborated and discussed. The manuscript contains a thorough description of the distance education means which are proper to employ in the process of developing students' foreign language professional competence. The effectiveness of the concept suggested was practically proved, manuals elaborated on its base were implemented in learning.
