Essay

The dissertation constitutes a comprehensive systematic analysis of the basic concepts of American library and information science (LIS) terminology. Recent trends in some areas of the modern American librarianship are identified, drawing on examples of basic multidimensional concepts of American LIS such as "collection management" and "organization of information" ("knowledge organization"). Current problems of borrowings, synonymy and polysemy of library and information terminology (based on the author's practice of preparing a bilingual LIS English-Ukrainian dictionary) are analyzed in a comparative context.
