Essay

The dissertation outlines and describes the range of intellectual abilities necessary to engage in study of physics, determines their nature and structure, and provides recommendations concerning development of these abilities in the course of study of physics. A theoretical and methodical foundation of working with intellectually gifted pupils and students' physics and methodical system of teaching physics to intellectually gifted youth, aimed at development of abilities in young people in the course of study of physics was proposed. It was proven that a young person's abilities in physics may be developed if a personality has appropriate disposition and inclination toward engagement in a particular activity. It was substantiated that intellectual contests in physics in all their diversity have an exceptional importance for creation of the necessary conditions for and stimulation of intellectual activities as the basis for development of human abilities.
