Essay

The thesis presents a philosophical analysis of some moral, social and private values/antivalues (including such as "conscience", "free will", "honor", "Motherland", "peace/war", "knowledge/ignorance", "loyalty/betrayal", "dialogism"), as reflected in Ukrainian theological texts of the second half of the XVII century. The unknown pages of of Inokentii Gizel's biography have been reconstructed and its established academic version is revised. The work analyzes the views of Ukrainian early modem thinker on the ideal structure of society, the significance of the category of "common good" as a value, which largely determines the order of all other social and moral values, and also affects the selection of private life strategies. Sources of the study include the Inokentii Gizel's treatise "Man's Peace with God", a popular exposition of the doctrine of repentance "The Teaching on the Holy Sacrament of Penance", the Ioanykii Galyatovsky's work "Diversity of Sins" and also sermons and devotional poetry of Yoanykii Galyatovskyi, Antonii Radyvylovskyi, Lazar Baranovych. Some works of Petro Mohyla, Kyrylo Trankvilion Stavrovetskyi, Yelysei Pletenetskyi et al. are used for comparison.
