Essay

The dissertation grounds on the author's ethnographic research materials collected during field studies in Ukraine, Romania and Moldova in 1993 - 2012, and also materials of Ukrainian and Russian archives. Research methodology was drafted and approbated in accordance with specific of the region. The methodology is based on comprehensive analysis of the adaptation key factors, i.e. natural conditions, multicultural environment, pattern of the Ukrainians' settlement. The dissertation proves that the study of the Ukrainians' adaptation in the region is possible since formation of the network of their settlements during 18thc. (Khan Ukraine) and in the last third of 18thc. - beginning of 20thc. (the Lower Dniester region, Budzhak, the Lower Danube region). In the course of adaptation some segments of the migrants' industrial and domestic complex developed in a traditional manner, the others faced sufficient transformations.
