The aim of the study - to develop the theoretical basis of the formation and development of the phenomenon of historicism in architecture and identify its importance in the general cultural context. The object of study - the phenomenon of historicism in architecture. Purpose of the study - especially the formation and development of the phenomenon of historicism in architecture and its place in the system architecture, art and culture. Research methods - methodological approach of integrating meaning genesis approach is also applied in the study of semiotic and systemic approaches. Their combination in the same work based on the fact that they focus on different but interrelated areas of study historical phenomena: a semiotic approach focuses on the study of semantic aspects of historical architecture and system - to study the way and patterns of events as material structure. The scientific novelty of the results: based on separation the phenomena historical and the phenomenon of style in the study it is developed a new direction in the theory of architecture - the theory of historicism - and formulated its base. It is possible to solve important scientific problem - bridging the theoretical and methodological crisis that characterized the present state of the theory of style in architecture, and lay the foundations for the formation of the theory of image creation, where style and historicism are the equivalent of the image forming paradigms in architecture. In this direction, new scientific results are as follows: first the theory of architectural phenomenon is considered as historical semiotic system and reveals the dual nature of the mechanism of its actualization in architecture in conjunction with the semantic space of culture; for the first time in the theory of architecture historicism is analyzed as a self-organized financial system and identified driving forces and mechanisms of its development in conjunction with the universal evolutionary laws; the first historicism in architecture theory is presented as a paradigm of parity to the style of the image formation and formed a dual model of image creation in the architecture; the first time in the theory of architecture found historical significance in the context of art and culture and presented it as one of the mechanisms that initiate in the general cultural context of the transfer and preservation of historical memory, thus providing continuity of historical development.
