The dissertation highlights research findings of the theoretical and methodological principles of formation and implementation of socio-cultural component in the contents of school geography courses, reveals the trends of its use in school practice. It is found that socio-cultural focus in the study of geography gives the opportunity to form students' concept of modern society and culture of the peoples of the world. In the dissertation, the author discloses the importance of including sociological and cult urological educational materials into the school geography courses, and points out potential of studying of the ethno-geography, geography of culture, population, religion, and tourism in the secondary and high school. It is proved that geographical knowledge of socio-cultural focus is a general scientific category which reflects the result of understanding of objective world, modern society, contemporary civilization, culture of the peoples of the world and their Motherland. It is developed and checked experimentally the method of formation of socio-cultural components in the contents of educational process in geography. It is introduced such scientific concepts as "socio-cultural component in the contents of school geography courses", "integration of socio-cultural substantial and geographical lines", improves definition of the concepts "society", "culture", "geographical culture", "ethnicity", "nation", "civilization", "Ukrainian people", "Ukrainian ethnic lands".
