Essay

The dissertation presents the history of development, the modern state and the place of the Olympic Movement and the Olympic Games in the world with consideration of the complex of processes and phenomena in a sphere of Olympic sport itself, and throughout the diverse and contradictory reality surrounding it. The issue with one-sided coverage of ancient Olympics is resolved. The centuries-old process of revival of the Olympic Games, which was successfully completed in the late XIX century by Pierre de Coubertin, is studied in detail. Activities of the IOC Presidents related to the set of the most important components of the Olympic movement are analyzed. The work of an outstanding educator General A. D. Butowsky in the field of physical education and the Olympic sport is analyzed and widely covered. The events and issues related to the preparation and holding of the first Russian Olympics in Kiev in 1913 are investigated. The social and economic foundations of the modern Olympic sport providing its authority, stability and independence are analyzed. The role and place of outstanding athletes in the Olympic sport, the risk factors typical of high performance sport as a profession, and problems of athletes social protection are analyzed.
