Essay

The thesis is devoted to the development of theoretical and methodological foundations for solving global food problems under the conditions of asymmetric development of the world economy by means of grounding imperatives and mechanisms for food supply on the basis of sustainable development. The thesis has analyzed the evolution of the theoretical grounds for the research of global food problem and has systematized its factors which include demographic, socio-economic, climatic, technical, technological and institutional; the paper has defined the basic forms of global food problem and has explained its asymmetric nature and its causes; the thesis has provided the original definition of the category "global food problem", which is insufficient level of food supply of a significant part of the world population, caused by temporal and spatial asymmetry of production factors development, inequality of economic relations and the imperfection of the world economic system institutions, relating to production, distribution and consumption of food resources; the paper has also given reasons for the dialectics of relationship between food problem and food security. The thesis has studied globalization as the determinant of global development and its impact on the food problem and has defined modern determinants of the development of global food problem: progress in science and technology, transnational corporations, global socio-economic and environmental problems; the paper has established the controversial impact of transnational corporations on the dynamics of food supply; by comparing the global indexes the thesis has proved the relationship between food problem and other global problems (demographic, environmental, energy, socio-economic, institutional); it has grounded the necessity and possibility of solving the food problem on the basis of sustainable development through the formation of an effective global system of agro-industrial complexes on innovation basis, modernization of social systems and providing realization of a person's unconditional right for adequate food in all countries; the formation of a viable and self reproducing ecosystem, strengthening and improving of international cooperation in the field of solving of interconnected global problems; the paper has defined the role of integration processes in shaping of the global food system; it has analyzed the development trends of the global food market and international trade in food resources.
