For the first time in Ukrainian literary movement this thesis highlights the philosophical and aesthetic ideals about science as a series of artistic-interpretational models in the 19th - early 21st century Ukrainian prose. According to the modal principle this movement has been traced on the material of genre and stylistic varieties of "verisimilitude", biographical and fantastical prose. The author has drawn several conceptual series, namely a series of meta-narrative or valuable paradigms, a number of artistic trends, genre and stylistic varieties, the typology of image-scientist; interwearing and interacting they create the image of science of this or that period in the form of artistic-interpretational models of science as life in truth, science as education, science as dis-interested search for truth or so-called "pure science", science as production and science as the crisis of goal-setting.
