The paper is devoted to complex research of the life course, scientific, educational, social and organizational activities of an outstanding paleozoologist Maria Vasilievna Pavlowa (nee Gortinska) (1854-1938). She was the academician of Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Science, the first female professor and head of paleontology department at Moscow University. Based on a wide range of sources the paper covered paleozoology founders impact on the formation on M. Pavlowa as paleozoologyst, analyzed scientific heritage of M. Pavlowa, characterized scientific activity of paleozoological school of M. Pavlowa, the role and the place of scientific heritage of M. Pavlowa in the context of modern biological science.
