Essay

The dissertation is devoted to the problem of social, ethnic and cultural changes which were taking their place in the territory of South-Eastern and Central Europe in V-IV Mill. BC. The study is based on the wide range of archaeological sources from this regions and data about the absolute chronology, based on C14 dating. There were three main stages of changes in the social organization and possibly ethnic and cultural transformations: between 5000-4200, 4200-3400 and 3400-3000 ВС. All three stages were connected to the fixed changes in environment, affecting on the economic conditions and way of life of the ancient population. The following problems are discussed: ethnic and cultural processes, their mutual relations, the consequences of those events for the ancient history of Europe. Considered the development subsistence, the emergence of crafts, the emergence and evolution of sign systems, sanctuaries, early urbanization, the development of military affairs, interaction between the ancient communities, including trade and acculturation. At the beginnig subsistence based mainly on farming, fited to local possibilities and sources.
