Essay

The object: the evolution of the traditional Ukrainian food culture of the Dnipro Ukrainians in the second half of the nineteenth and early twenty-first centuries. Purpose: the ethnological conceptualization of the evolution of the traditions of using pottery in the national culture of nutrition of the Ukrainian peasants of the Dnipro region, revealing their interrelated with the trends of pottery development, the technology of cooking food and beverages, and the beliefs of the hostesses. Methods: critical discourse analysis, methods of field studies and modeling, typological, historical-chronological, comparative-historical, complex and retrospective analysis, structural-functional. Results: for the first time the modern approach to the interpretation of clay dishes as a multifaceted variable object of the historical process through the prism of representations of Ukrainian peasants was developed and applied, the concept of transformation of the traditions of using clay crockery by Ukrainian peasants of the Dnipro region and its role in the traditional culture of the second half of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries was formulated, the general features of the dependence of the development of shaping, appointment and use of clay dishes were determined and characterized, from methods of food processing for the preparation of daily, holiday and ritual food stocks, dishes and drinks, as well as changes in the socio-cultural situation, the systematic picture of women's behavior during the choice of pottery, the introduction to the farm and the use for cooking and serving to the table of dishes and drinks, their storage, trace the archetypal elements of normative femininity and its manifestation in the use of pottery and cooking stoves was highlighted. Scope of application: for further in-depth study of the material and spiritual culture of Ukrainians and Slavs in general by ethnologists, historians, anthropologists, culturologists, museum scientists, art historians, writing textbooks and manuals, encyclopedias, biographical and bibliographic reference books, etc.
