In the thesis, the phenomenon of variability in the Old Ukrainian literary-written language of XIV – XV centuries is comprehensively studied. In the introduction, the urgency of the topic is substantiated, the purpose and the main tasks, the object and subject of the research, the source base and the methods for material processing are defined, the connection of the thesis with the research projects is traced, the scientific novelty is proved, the theoretical relevance and practical value of the work are revealed, the personal contribution of the author is characterized, information on the testing of research results and the number of published works is submitted, the structure of the thesis is outlined. In the variable elements of Ukrainian monuments of XIV – XV centuries, the consequent linguistic features typical for traditional writing are found, phonetic features typical for modern Ukrainian literary language are reflected, features of the second South Slavic influence, consistently reflected in religious writing, as well as the examples of the Polish language presence, mostly witnessed in charters, are singled out. By means of variable units analysis, phonetic and morphological features of Northern Ukrainian and southwest Ukrainian dialects are recorded, the areas of dialect phenomena existing on that time are defined. Northern Ukrainian and southwest Ukrainian variants of Old Ukrainian literary-written language of XIV – XV centuries are singled out. The results of the research are presented in tables and charts.
