Essay

The thesis represents the scientific theoretical substantiation and the comprehensive empirical study of comprehending religious discourse through general psychology, as well as such interdisciplinary branches as discursive psychology and psycholinguistics. On the ground of a pre-substantiated psychological definition of the «discourse» category, the definition of religious discourse has been observed as the process of cognitive-speech activity in a religiously relevant social and communicative situation, which involves the reception, transmission and/or creation (compilation) of certain religious texts in a certain context, and as the current result of this activity, which creates the corresponding discursive picture (model) of the world. The concept «religious discursive personality» has been introduced and substantiated. It refers to a person who believes in God or, at least, internally accepts the idea of His being and appropriately perceives, comprehends, reproduces (as a recipient) and/or creates religious discourses (as an author/a co-author), and with their help reproduces and simultaneously forms himself/herself, meaningful оthers and the whole surrounding world. А psychological conception of comprehending religious discourse has been developed and substantiated. It possesses the following systemic components: 1) the subject of comprehending – a religious discursive personality; 2) the context of comprehending with such main dimensions as regulatory-behavioral, cognitive-intellectual, motivational-target and affective-empathy aspects; 3) basic levels of personality’s comprehending – semantic (interpersonal) and sense (personal); 4) basic linguistic-figurative form of expression of meaning – a metaphor (basic metaphor). A subpersonal symbolic-archetypal level of comprehending, which constitutes both personal and interpersonal levels, has been considered separately.
