Essay

The thesis for the first time exposes the Ukrainian experimental prose of the 20th – the beginning of the 21st centuries in a holistic manner, as a multidimensional and ambiguous literary phenomenon in the historical-cultural and genre-style perspectives. Thіs period is characterized by the continuous aspirations of literature to go beyond the established requirements and to carry out the «impossible» in its traditional understanding. Experimental texts generate «impossible» literature (according to R. Barthes) and are multidimensional, illogical, subjective, playful, interactive, oriented to various non-classical communicative strategies. The focus is on the study of the problem of «artistic experiment» and «experimental prose» in the genesis in the Ukrainian and foreign literary discourse. The artistic experiment is positioned as a dynamic artistic phenomenon, due to which the aesthetic transcoding of the work takes place and an alternative to the code of artistic and aesthetic tradition is introduced. There is a transition to a non-classical aesthetics and a departure from the established knowledge. In the light of the scientific works of Ukrainian and foreign scholars, the experimental prose covers Avant-garde, Modernist, Post-modernist innovations, appears as a bulky array of texts from the 20th and early 21st centuries whose authors sought to change the notion of the possibility of describing and metaphorically comprehending the world.
