Polyakov M. Global determinants of the formation and development of the knowledge economy

The thesis developed theoretical and methodological background of study of the knowledge economy. First of all, the evolution of scientific understanding of the world economic development of the society as well as a retrospective of the formation of the knowledge economy concept were studied. The nature of knowledge as an economic category was identified and its role in development of the world economy was substantiated. The specific aspects of formation of knowledge economy were justified, covering a wide range of structural and institutional changes. The key features of knowledge economy were also identified, providing an insight into the specifics of such type of economy. Based on the empirical analysis the development trends of international scientific and technological cooperation were determined and global forms of its development in terms of transition to knowledge economy were identified. A particular attention was drawn to special aspects of global innovative trends formation and their role in generation, circulation and application of new knowledge. .Using the suggested structural and analytical model and a new methodological approach, a cluster analysis of knowledge economy development in different countries of the world was conducted, which enabled assessment of the global landscape of such economy formation. The strategic aspects of the knowledge economy (formation of knowledge economy) development in Ukraine in global context were highlighted. Primarily, the institutional conditions and economy development problems of Ukraine. The analysis was made and the specifics and problems of the knowledge economy formation in Ukraine were identified. The conceptual framework for transition of Ukraine to the knowledge economy was formulated in conditions of transformation of the world economy. The recommendations on improvement of information infrastructure as a prerequisite for transition of Ukraine to the knowledge economy were elaborated.
