The dissertation is a systematic scientific and historical research, in which the main tendencies of development of the national science of farm animal breeding of the second half of the 60's of the 20th – the beginning of the 21st century were summarized for the first time on base of the complex of sources and the application of modern methodological approaches. Contribution of the Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Professor, Academician NAAS M. Zubets (1938–2014) in the development of theoretical and methodological principles of farm animal breeding has substantiated. His activities as the organizer of the domestic agricultural research, the head of some branch scientific institutions have comprehensively evaluated. Creative heritage of the scientist was systematized, priority of his researches on the formation of the system conception of the breed, the linear breeding, the development of genetic, biotechnological and technological foundations of selection in animal husbandry, the actualization of the problem of preservation and rational use of biodiversity and others was substantiated. M. Zubets contribution to the development of modern theory and methodology of reproduction in dairy and beef cattle breeding, the creation of specialized breeds and types of cattle was specified. The significance of the scientist's pedagogical and popularizing activities for the general development of branch scientific thought has proved. The program of activities of his scientific school has generalized.
