Essay

Research subject: processes of wood finishing with coating compositions based on modified linseed oil. Research objective: development of scientific and technical fundamentals of the creation of protective and decorative wood finishes with oil coating materials. Research methods: rheological, physical and chemical methods of oil-based materials research, research methods of technological, physical and mathematical characteristics of coatings, mathematical statistics methods of results analysis of experimental research data; methods of statistics modeling for model verification; hierarchical analysis method; fuzzy set theory method for mathematical model building. Scientific novelty: For the first time hierarchical models with priority impact factors were developed for decision making in the selection of ecologically safe coating materials; for the first time a new approach was proposed for the evaluation of the adhesive contact of an oil composition with a wood substrate by means of parachor calculation, which made it possible to determine the stability of the adhesive contact; for the first time it was established in what manner the rosin content and the temperature of the oil compositions change the coefficient of diffusion into the wood, which allows for the control of change in oil penetration and the coating thickness; for the first time patterns of the influence of temperature and humidity on the physical and mechanical properties of a modified oil coating were established; Zisman method of determining the surface tension of wood substrates was further developed; theoretic computations verified that the contact angle of wetting has a direct impact on adhesion of coating materials to the wood substrate and changes in time, which provides an opportunity to change technological regimes and forecast operational properties of oil coatings; a complex of mathematical prediction models for adhesive strength, hardness of a coating, coating thickness, which take into account properties of wood and oil composition, was developed. Practical value: it is suggested to introduce modifiers (pine rosin, wax, drier) into the linseed oil, which cause a reduction in drying time of the protective and decorative coatings, increase hardness, thickness of the coating and decrease the penetration of oil composition into the wood; the rational formulation of coating composition was determined; mathematical models for predicting of the coating drying time and the hardness of oil coating on wood, which could be used in production conditions, were created; application rates of modified oil compositions were determined; technological regimes of creation of protective and decorative wood coatings based on ecologically safe modified linseed oil were developed. Branch of knowledge: Woodworking
