Essay

Roman period is one of the most complicated phases in the history of Ukraine, because of the implementation of an amount of different historical and cultural processes in this period. Despite the achievements of Ukrainian archeology, there still are a lot of questions related to the problems of migration, character of colonization, order of settlements and burial sites, relationship with different ethnic groups, features of material and spiritual culture, etc. This is particularly true for the study of regions, which were situated on the way of migrations or in the so-called contact areas. Such areas in the Roman period were modern Western Volyn and Podilia regions. In the first half of the 1st century AD, there were few different ethnic societies in those regions. They differed in the level of their development, material and spiritual culture, and in features of the household.
