The thesis is devoted to the complex study of the life path, scientific, design and inventive activities of Boris Loutzky, a native of Ukrainian, his personal contribution to the development of engine building, and also the impact on the development of world and Ukrainian technology. For the first time B. Loutzky's priority in creation of numerous designs of internal combustion engines, vehicles and aircraft was substantiated. It is proved that his activity has led to qualitative changes that became key in the development of engine building, automobile and aircraft construction. The relevance of the thesis is due to the considerable scientific an engineering value of B. Loutzky for world science and technology, the lack of a special comprehensive study of his scientific, design and inventive activities, the need to reproduce the most objective and complete biography of the designer, the analysis of his technological heritage. On the basis of an expanded layer of historical knowledge, analysis of patents for inventions, archival and documentary materials, it was created a well-documented comprehensive picture of the development of the world engine-building in the second half of the 19th - the first quarter of the 20th century. It was developed a periodization of the world development of internal combustion engines within the appropriate chronological frameworks, which allowed to identify the main stages of its development and the qualitative changes that took place at these stages.
