Kalko V. Ukrainian paremia: semantics, syntactics, pragmatics

The thesis focuses on the Ukrainian paremia as lingual signs integrating the semantics shaped for the cognitive principles of ethnic mentality, the syntactic means of interpreting their category and lingual stylistic text functions andtheir pragmatic significance perceived by the reader and/or listener. Paremically marked sense of proverbs is also given, ranging from propositional, associative metaphoric, mixed (propositional metaphoric) to paradoxal. The studydescribes specific functioning of proverbs in a text, signifies their role in textual categories formation and lingual stylistic functions promotion. It also singles out pragmatically shaped features of the Ukrainian paremia possessing genuine illocution for such speech actsas representatives, directives, expressives.
