Essay

A new concept of systematic comprehension of theoretical and practical aspects in the study of the character’s fictional consciousness in the dimensions of drama is proposed in the dissertation for the first time. The dynamics of usage and the essence of the concept of consciousness in scientific analysis have been traced. The systematic scientific observations of scientists on the artistic phenomena of convention, subtext, ambiguity, abstractness, imitation, virtuality, hypertext, simulation, which correlate with specific planes of consciousness representation were systematized. The concepts, necessary for modelling of fictional consciousness of a personage in dramaturgy were designated for the first time on the basis of Ukrainian dramaturgy studies, the achievements of philosophy of consciousness and cognitive literary studies: the fictional consciousness of a personage, the internal reality of the hero, the mental (internal) projection, the mental image, the mental construction (model), the mental (internal) space. The study of the personage’s fictional consciousness by means of studying the features, principles, ways of modelling it by the author of the dramatic work allows to determine the universal and specific characteristics of the fictional consciousness in its dynamic expression in structural and functional dimensions. It is substantiated that modelling is an immanent sign of the artistic meanings production and a relevant means of constructing different structural levels of a literary work and its holistic concept, since it involves operations with created mental images that correlate with artistic images, on the grounds of their semantic or artistic virtualization (in the cultural sense as an indicator of the formation of the operating plane of extensive systems of images and concepts in the consciousness). The fictional consciousness of a personage is characterized by the highest level of aesthetic and semantic virtualization, as it constitutes fragments of artistic reality according to the modified principles of displaying in the framework of another display – in the space of a literary work.
