The main categorical-conceptual contours of the phenomenon of the Ukrainian diaspora are detailed and the conceptual positions of the historical-psychological conditionality of the formation of psychological thought in the Ukrainian diaspora of the XX century are considered. The functioning centers of Ukrainian psychological thought in the diaspora of the XX century are singled out in Europe, the USA, Canada and Australia. The periodization of the formation of the Ukrainian Free University has been developed, which includes four stages. The peculiarities of the development of psychological knowledge at each stage of the institutional formation of an educational institution have been analyzed. The date of presentation of the first course of Psychology in the Ukrainian diaspora of the XX century was revealed in Europe and the Western Diaspora as a whole, and it was proposed to consider 1919 the year of birth of psychology in Ukrainian emigration.
