Essay

The dissertation is devoted to the complex research of scientific, scientific-organizational, pedagogical, scientific-public activity of V. M. Peretts’s on the Ukrainian scientific-educational space, determination of the scientist's contribution to the development of Ukrainian studies, archeography, bibliography, research of national manuscript and book heritage and organization of Ukrainian scientific and cultural life of the late nineteenth – first third of the twentieth century. The study found that V. M. Peretts’s scientific interest in Ukrainian studies problems and his interest in the history of ancient Ukrainian literature was largely formed under the influence of Ukrainian scholars. V. M. Peretts’s contribution to the revival and development of Ukrainian science and education, formation of scientific philological school, development of methodology and scientific-practical bases of complex research of Ukrainian monuments of history and culture, creation of historical panorama of process of formation of manuscript and book sources, development written and book culture and spirituality, their national features, identification of national historical, literary and cultural monuments, study and publication of Ukrainian manuscript and book heritage. The participation of V. M. Peretts in the creation of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, the struggle of the scientist for the scientific autonomy of the Ukrainian Academy, his role in the founding of Ukrainian scientific institutions and societies are studied. The process of persecution of V. M. Peretts and criticism of his philological school in the early 1930s is studied. The efforts of scientists aimed at the political and scientific rehabilitation of V. M. Peretts and the preservation of the traditions of his scientific school are highlighted.
