Essay

The dissertation is a comprehensive study of the history of formation and functioning of the Kyiv Law Society (1877–1919). The paper covers the organizational principles, scientific and cultural-educational activities of the organization. The preconditions for the emergence of KLS are determined: the development of European law in the XIX century, which, at one time, influenced the development of domestic legislation, and the process of creation and operation of the Faculty of Law at St. Vladimir's University in the first half of the XIX century. The process of establishing the KLS and its tasks, formation of the structure, organizational activity, creation of the Department of customary law, educational and law – making activity are investigated. The analysis of the scientific heritage of KLS in the areas of development of legal science: the theory of state and law, Roman, constitutional, civil, criminal and Ukrainian customary law.
